| The Plaster Caster Blues band did not have
any plaster caster groupies in it, but were a bunch of studio musicians.
Their 1969 album "The Plaster Casters", included a track
called 'You Didn't Try To Ball Me', dedicated to Frank Zappa.
The track also got released on 7". -- scans: Hans-Peter Schmidt |

2007 09 21: The Keneallist 2007 09 21 A
message from Mike: Alva's
& Baked Potato coming up, plus
some fun new stuff Good
lord, great goshamighty. And how are you? I guess I haven't had anything
to say to you folks since all the touring started in August, which is
nuts. And I don't have much time now unfortunately, but we've got to get
this thing out to you tonight, so here goes -- first, two SoCal shows
coming right up in San Pedro and Studio City (see below). NOW, HERE'S
WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON: August
tour wrap-up -- Great
to hook up with Beller and Minnemann at the Outreach Festival. We killed
it power trio style, then joined forces with Franz Hackl on trumpet and
Adam Holzman on keys for what was billed as "Heavy Metal
Miles," but was really just us playing the hell out of the stuff as
best as we could. Glorious side effect -- Beller telling me that he
finally "got" Miles. Beautiful to hear him and Marco doing
what they do on these fantastic tunes, and a privilege to collaborate
with Adam H. who had such a storied history playing these pieces with MD
himself. And we didn't just stick to the '70s tunes - we tackled
"Mademoiselle Mabry" which was a total joy. There is real
energy afoot to get the five-piece band on the road in Europe playng the
Miles stuff, but there's equal energy devoted to getting the power trio
formation out there too -- both configurations turned assorted heads in
the right direction. School
of Rock All-Stars: rather bittersweet as a number of the students on our
brief tour were making their last stands as All-Stars prior to
graduating from the program. Not enough people came out to these gigs
but the playing was magnificent. And a couple of weeks ago I got
together with some of the All-Stars once again to collaborate with Jon
Anderson at a Farm Sanctuary fund-raising event in Beverly Hills, a
gloriously successful evening which planted some fascinating seeds for
the future (and no, I didn't tell Jon about "Faithful Axe" --
yet.) The
first Offside Open festival in Geldern, Germany: my first all-solo gig
in Europe got off to a nerve-wracking start when I entered the stage
with Co de Kloet's introduction ringing in my ear: "and as Steve
Vai used to say, ladies and gentlemen, the AMAZING Mike
Keneally..." This is not necessarily what one needs to hear when
preparing to attempt to entertain a large field filled with mostly
non-fans who have no idea what to expect, other than now they expect
something AMAZING, and my choice was to tread lightly and carefully into
the beginning of the set until I caught my bearings. But over the course
of the next 80 minutes or so I found my comfort level and ascended to an
acceptable level of onstage craziness, and the audience responded in a
lovely fashion. Got some stunning reviews too, which is a happy bonus.
And wow, what a beautiful setting for the festival -- I love me some
trees -- and what a marvelous inaugural outing for what's sure to become
a fantastic yearly event. Coming
up! Things in Budapest and Sweden which I will describe in more detail
soon -- and a thing which I can now officially reveal -- that myself,
Bryan Beller and drummer Gene Hoglan (also of Strapping Young Lad) will
be joining mastermind Brendon Small on the road as the real live
DETHKLOK of Metalocalypse fame -- yep, we are bringing the metal from
the TV screen to the stage. Beautiful madness. This is happening late
October into November -- don't have an itinerary yet, but stay tuned. My
voice can also be heard on several upcoming episodes of Season 2 of
Metalocalypse, which airs Sunday night on the Cartoon Network -- don't
know when the episodes I'm on are airing so you'll have to watch them
all. And
I will be a guest on Rundgren Radio at 7pm Central Time, September 25.
Go here for details: myspace.com/rundgrenradio. And call in and ask me
things! Mike

Hi
everyone, Two new release are online now: Century of Aeroplanes - A simple process [WM069] - http://www.wmrecordings.com/releases/wm069.htm A
collection of 6 compositions, each of which is based around a simple
melodic fragment. These fragments are then altered by various processes
(i.e. adding notes, transposing, shifting the beat placement). The
compositions end when the process has run its course. Various Artists - A tribute to Chenard Walcker volume 1 [WM070] - http://www.wmrecordings.com/releases/wm070.htm Chenard
Walcker, a friend of the online music world, is slowly recovering from a
diabetic coma. His brother reports that he is not physically suffering.
He fell into the coma in September 2006, and is now working on speech
development and object differentiation. So many of us have benefited
from and enjoy Chenard's work. This is our chance to repay our sweet
friend and to send him our love with a tribute release on WM Recordings. And
even more news: The
complete WM Recordings catalog is NOW available on Last.fm! http://www.last.fm/label/WM+Recordings And
last, but not least: Get this funky German hiphop album for a ridiculously low price now: http://amiestreet.com/artist/7347 That'll keep you busy for a while, won't it?! best
wishes, Marco

March 29, 2003, DJ Shadow did a 2 hour mix on BBC 1 radio during a John Peel show. He used a Zappa sample in his mix. The show was made available as a 2 CD set through his official fanclub in a limited edition of 1000 copies. Shortly thereafter, unofficial (bootleg) copies showed up, both on CD and on vinyl.
It's a very brief sample. After 40 seconds in the second part of the show (the first part lasting 80 minutes), there's Frank Zappa saying: "Suzy? Suzy Creamcheese?..." and that takes about 15 seconds. |
