> The Pharaos

from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives, vol.1" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Sebastian Anthony Battaglia, known professionally as Dino Dupree, was Frank Zappa's replacement in Joe Perrino And The Mellotones. In fact, Zappa taught Dino the band's set during this two-week changeover period. Dino Dupree cut the Plaza single "Little Princess"/ "Ambrosial" at Paul Buff's Pal studio during the fall of 1961, and the A-side features Buff's stepfather Ward Allen on numerous overdubbed violin parts. "Ambrosial" was an adventurous instrumental that went beyond the typical three chords to create something fresh and exciting."

from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives, vol.5" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Before he recorded his solo single “Little Princess”/ “Ambrosial” at Pal, Dino Dupree laid down four rough Pal demos with The Pharaohs in 1960 that only exist on acetates. Two of the tracks were instrumentals, with the other two being vocal numbers. One of the instrumentals, “Chaser,” is featured here."

from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives, vol.6" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Dino Dupree cut "Jive 'N" at the same session as "Chaser" from the previous volume, and it's another stellar Dino guitar showcase."

from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives, vol.9" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Dino Dupree's two other 1960 demos ("Hi-Fi Mama" and "Why Jean Why") are also on this volume. These are the two vocal cuts that accompanied the instrumentals "Chaser" and "Jive 'N" on previous volumes."

from the "Paul Buff presents the PAL and Original Sound studio archives, vol.17" liner notes by Greg Russo:
"Our third track is an alternate version of Dino Dupree's "Ambrosial." This song was released as the B-side on Buff's Plaza label, but not in this way. This mix was considered inferior to the one that appeared on Volume 1, so we have reserved it until now!"

Dino Dupree and the Pharaohs took part in the Buff / Zappa tribute concert in Rancho Cucamonga, ca, usa on 2005/07/30.
