My band played in clubs that today do not exist.

I used to tie myself into agonized knots over girls
             Who, in long retrospect,
             Appear as repulsive retards
             For how they disdained me
Instead choosing inert mediocrities to fuck.

             Pam smoked herself to death
Lung cancer metastasized into brain cancer
             Every time I'd see her
             Years before cancer
She'd be smoking and gabbing away in some Valley bar.
She and hubby moved to wildflower Lompoc to escape
The brutish cops and toxic air of LA.

Evidently they failed to move soon enough.

              I cherish the beautiful young
Although too often they mindlessly gab like Pam

Unaware that as you live
You observe pieces of your life
              Vanish over the horizon
Dumped off the edge of the world.

BOOK OF CHANGES

Here's another book for your Captain Beefheart library. Kristine McKenna did a bunch of interviews with various intersting people and collected them in this book. There's David Lynch, Brian Eno, Tom Waits, Neil Young and lots of others. And the reason that the book gets a mention here, is that she did one with Don Van Vliet as well. It's in the book, about ten pages, including the nice drawing of Van Vliet by comic book artist Jim Woodring.

    • On "In C", Kawabata and his buddies take on the famous Terry Riley composition, resulting in a stunning 20-minute version. And as if that weren't enough, the Acid Mothers bring us two compositions that have been inspired by this piece: 'In E' and 'In D'.

      Impressive.

Sure wish he'd do that with Zappa's 'King Kong'...

THE KENEALLIST 2007 01 15

THE KENEALLIST: January 15, 2007

Hi friends -- here's a big colorful reminder about the School of Rock All-Stars show in San Diego this weekend:

These amazing musicians, all between the ages of 13 and 19, will blow your minds with their ferocious rock power, and I'll do my best to keep up when I sit in with them.

This show is the official introduction of the School of Rock program to San Diego -- if you know, live with or are a human being between the ages of 7 and 18 who would like to learn to rock like the wind, be at this show!

THE SECOND BATCH OF UNIVERSE WILL PROVIDE ARTWORK

We've just put another round of original Keneally drawings, done in 2003 on actual pages from the Universe Will Provide orchestral score, up on eBay.

Whitesnake fans should pay close attention to drawing #11.

TWO NEW BOGUS POMP SHOWS

a message from Fred
2007 01 15

The Bogus Pomp Low Budget Semi-Acoustic Orchestra will perform on Saturday, February 17th at the Garage in downtown St.Petersburg.   Doors open at 8pm and the show starts around 9:30pm.  Tickets are $10 at the door only, no advance tickets.   We will do two sets of instrumental, semi-acoustic music.   Each set will be an hour or a little longer.   This performance will feature Dan Campbell on violin and Tom Kersey on cello.   Also this will be Jason Caren's debut on drums with the band.  We are very happy to have him aboard!!  The lineup will consist of......

  • Jerry Outlaw ~ acoustic guitar

  • Alex Pasut ~ acoustic bass

  • Rick Olson ~ keyboards, acoustic guitar

  • Ross Jobson ~ keyboards

  • Jason Caren ~ drums, percussion

  • David Coash ~ marimba, percussion

  • Dan Campbell ~ violin

  • Tom Kersey ~ cello

This is a unique lineup and I think it will sound excellent in this format.   As always, video and audio recording is welcomed and encouraged.   This show will not be a late one or a loud one so, bring someone you wouldn't usually bring.

  • 2007/02/17 Bogus Pomp - concert 'The Garage', St.Petersburg, FL, usa

Also, will also be playing Dalifest at The Dali Museum on Saturday, March 24. More detail will follow.

  • 2007/03/24 Bogus Pomp - concert 'The Dali Museum', St.Petersburg, FL, usa

Did anybody get a video of Zappaween 11. If you did please let me know as Jerry and the band would love to get a copy.

Thanks!

Fred

'Play 2' is the second in a series of releases by Lee Rosevere that focus on experimental, ambient and imaginary soundtrack works. A NEW ZAPPA BOOTLEG SET

  • frank zappa: zoott allurely!
        (2006, 4cd-bootleg, ??, howard carter)
    • Another new Zappa bootleg has hit the shelves... "Zoot Allurely!" is a 4 CD set and presents two concerts in very fine quality:
      - 1975/10/01    concert 'war memorial gym', vancouver, bc, canada
      - 1976/01/20    concert 'pavillion', sydney, australia
    • The 1975/10/01 concert is a great gig. The recording is taken from an FM broadcast. A longer audience recordings exists, but this is the best sounding version.
The second concert is the 1976/01/20 concert (and not the 1976/01/21 concert as the album says). It's the "FZ/OZ" concert, but an audience recording.

To promote this album, 2CDR releases have been issued. Check out the scans & info below.

And don't forget to check out www.zappateers.com if you want to hear Zappa in concert.

THE PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK ALL-STARS

This is a FREE SHOW, and if you're in or around San Diego you MUST attend. This is the official coming-out party for the School of Rock program in San Diego - as you probably know, I've just been named the National Music Director for the school, and I'll be the music director for the upcoming central San Diego branch (location to be disclosed shortly). If you or your kid is interested in this program this show is a great opportunity to find out more, and to hear some fantastic music. Paul Green will be presenting the All-Stars onstage and I'll sit in on some tunes.

I'll remind you of these gigs again next week, along with some updated info on the hat. and Boil That Dust Speck special edition DVDs.

THE UNIVERSE WILL PROVIDE SCORE PAGE DRAWINGS ON eBAY

I also wanted you to know that we just put up four of my original drawings, done on actual score pages from the original The Universe Will Provide orchestral score, on eBay. I did 44 of these drawings during the rehearsals in 2003 for the premiere of TUWP, and these are the first four we've put up for auction.

More details can be found on each individual listing. These make superb post-Christmas gifts for the drawings-on-score-pages lover in your life. Auction ends Sunday.

Also, at http://www.keneally.com, there's a photo of me wearing a very old hat which you might like to see.

Thanks everyone!

Your confidante,

Mike K.

Missing Persons finds new life
By Christopher John Treacy
Friday, January 5, 2007
http://theedge.bostonherald.com/musicNews/view.bg?articleid=175363

It took a 52-foot fall from a window in Los Angeles to seal Dale Bozzio's fate as lead singer of the '80s new wave rock band Missing Persons.

That and a series of bizarre encounters with Hugh Hefner and Frank Zappa.

"It's a miracle I lived through it. I landed on pavement," the Somerville native said of her accident, speaking from the New Hampshire farmhouse she inherited. Bozzio, now 51 and a mother of two, brings the current Missing Persons lineup to the Middle East in Cambridge tomorrow.

"I was blind for an entire year afterwards," Bozzio said. "When my sight returned I had to relearn how to walk."

Locked in the confines of her mind and heavily medicated, she toyed with poetry. Some of it would become lyrics for Missing Persons' Frank Zappa-funded 1982 debut, "Spring Session M."

Bozzio's eye-popping outfits of transparent, multicolored plastic and her teased fluorescent hair put the videos for "Words," "Destination Unknown" and "Mental Hopscotch" in heavy rotation on MTV. But the story really began a decade earlier in 1971, when Bozzio had better luck crawling through a window at the old Boston Music Hall to get backstage during Zappa's sold-out "200 Motels" show.

"I'd hoped a friend working at the Music Hall could get us in," she recalled, "but we arrived late and had to sneak up the fire escape and into a window to get backstage. I was only 16. It was quite a sight, me in glittered high heels climbing the wrought-iron stairs."

Zappa appreciated the girls' determination. He asked them out to eat and later invited them to his hotel room. Bozzio passed on the hotel visit, but the impression she made on the Mothers of Invention mastermind would pay off down the road. Meanwhile, she pursued modeling.

"I worked at Boston's Playboy Club and was named Bunny of the Year in 1975 under the name Toni Consalvi," Bozzio said. "I was invited out to the Hefner mansion. This was a tremendous opportunity. If Hugh liked me enough I might've gotten to live there, which is what I was banking on when I made the trip in '76."

But she hadn't planned on an intimate audition.

"Hefner stood at the top of the stairs in his bathrobe and asked me to come up, but I didn't think that was wise," Bozzio said. "So I asked him to please come down and talk to me. When he wouldn't budge, I turned and walked out the door."

With no dough and no mansion address, Bozzio was up the creek sans paddle, but running into Zappa again proved serendipitous. A phone call to her only L.A. friend, a musician, landed her at a recording studio where Zappa happened to be working. Barging in on him a second time resulted in a mentoring relationship that lasted a decade. It's also how she met her future husband and Missing Persons band mate, Terry Bozzio, then drumming in Zappa's band. So began the romance that sparked Missing Persons' pop success in the early '80s - a success that came only after Bozzio's recovery from her 52-foot plunge. But the band's reign was woefully short-lived. When the Bozzios' marriage dissolved in 1986, so did Missing Persons. Now Terry tours with the Zappa on Zappa tribute show, while Dale periodically revamps Missing Persons with a shifting lineup of longtime friends.

Does she miss the fleeting fame she enjoyed more than 20 years ago? Or hope to recapture it?

"I firmly believe that if you dwell on yesterday and tomorrow, you can't live in today," Bozzio said. "You need to find strength to handle life as it happens. I've learned not to expect anything, and that way I'm never disappointed."

RIP MICHAEL BRECKER

2007 01 14

CBS/AP) NEW YORK Michael Brecker -- a versatile and much-studied jazz saxophonist who won eleven Grammys over a career that spanned more than three decades -- has died.

He was 57 years old. His longtime friend and agent says Brecker died today of leukemia in New York.

Becker was born in 1949 in Philadelphia and had won the Grammys for his work as a tenor saxophonist. He was inspired to study the tenor saxophone by the work of jazz legend John Coltrane.

He and his brothers led a successful jazz-rock fusion group called the Brecker Brothers. Throughout his career, he recorded and performed with numerous jazz and pop music leaders, including Herbie Hancock and Joni Mitchell.

His technique on the saxophone was widely emulated and taught. Jazziz magazine once called him "inarguably the most influential tenor stylist of the last 25 years."

FREAK SHOW

Mute has done it again. Another beautiful hardbound book release from The Residents' vast back catalog. This is the Freak Show release, as you've heard it before, plus a lovely new full color hard bound book with wonderful graphics from the Dark Horse graphic novel and a bonus DVD with footage (never before seen) from the Freak Show DVD (which was never completed due to the unfortunate passing of Jim Ludkte, the animator for the project.) The DVD also contains some footage for Freak Show Live in Prague and the Jelly Jack video. So it's a lovely little piece of work, sure to shine in your collection. This will ship from here by the release date of Jan 23rd.

Drummer TERRY BOZZIO To Play On New KORN Album? - Jan. 7, 2007

http://www.roadrun.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsit...

According to Korn.Simpol.Net, Terry Bozzio will fill in for KORN drummer David Silveria during his temporary hiatus from the band, Martini Republic reports.

Bozzio, 56, who is long considered one of the greatest drummers in rock history, will replace David Silveria for at least one studio album and tour.

According to Martini Republic, Silveria is taking time out from the band to maintain his restaurants - Tuna Town and Silvera's Steakhouse & Lounge - plus spend quality time with his family. Bozzio has recorded with numerous musicians on hundreds of albums across the musical spectrum, including DURAN DURAN, STEVE VAI, PAUL HYDE, HERBIE HANCOCK, DWEEZIL ZAPPA, BILLY SHEEHAN, RICHARD MARX, MATSUMOTO HIDETO, and more.

KORN is currently writing and recording material for its eighth studio album. An MTV "Unplugged" performance taped last month will be broadcast and released on CD in February.

NEW BOOK ON ZAPPA

Manuel de la Fuente Solar has written a book on Zappa: "Frank Zappa en el Infierno"

Check out his blog for more info: http://mfuente.blogspot.com

from the blog:

Frank Zappa en el infierno ("Frank Zappa in Hell") is the title of a new book by the Spanish publisher Biblioteca Nueva. It's the first analysis written in Spanish on Frank Zappa, one of the most important American rock musicians of the 20th century, and his work. Written by Manuel de la Fuente Soler, a lecturer of Media Studies at the University of Valencia, the book analyzes the role that Zappa played as a political activist in the 80s. In those years, Zappa campaigned intensively against the conservative government of Ronald Reagan.

Frank Zappa en el infierno looks into Zappa's work focusing on his opposition to conservative politics. It's the first time that an analysis on Zappa's work is carried out in Spanish, and it's also the first time that a book deals with the links of his songs with American politics, a totally new topic even in the literature in English. With a prologue written by Jenaro Talens, a professor at the University of Geneva and also expert in Zappa's work, the book looks into the meaning of the countless actions undertaken by Zappa in order to make people aware of the dangers of reaganism. In addition, his most important songs, in which he expressed his political opinions, are analyzed.

In preparation for this book De la Fuente Soler spent nearly five years doing research and collecting information, and he consulted the archives of several libraries in the United States. The author describes Frank Zappa en el infierno as a "study on the validity of rock music as an anti-establishment movement, a historical journey through how rock and politics influence each other".

BOB HARRIS & JOCK BARTLEY

ANOTHER UNRELEASED ZAPPA ALBUM HAS TURNED UP

  • frank zappa / the ensemble modern: burnt weeny sandwich part 2
(1991, 12", usa, testpressing barking pumpkin records 74239)

(info from an ebay sale)

March 19th 1991 - frank zappa conducting ensemble modern - burnt weeny sandwich part 2 - 12" vinyl record test pressing manufactured by specialty records corporation olyphant, pennslyvania for barking pumpkin records - matrix numbers - 74239-a/b z 1-dmm sp1-1 818-pumpkin prearion td.

This is an official pressing made for barking pumpkin records and it's not " The Yellow Shark " or a reissue of the october 1969 Mothers Of Invention classic lp " Burnt Weeny Sandwich ".

(info from the seller)

In 1991 the group Ensemble Modern were in Los Angeles rehearsing some music that Frank had written for them. During this period they went into the studio to record this album "Burnt Weeny Sandwich - Part 2 ". The following year Ensemble Modern performed a series of concerts in Europe known as "The Yellow Shark ".

I obtained this record from a guy in los angeles many years ago that told me this was indeed " Burnt Weeny Sandwich - Part 2 ". There wasn't a record information sheet that was given to me with this record so I can't give you the track listings. I can recognise some of the themes: at the beginning of side 2 is "Semi-Fraudulent / Direct-From-Hollywood Overture" and later on the same side appears "This Town Is A Sealed Tuna Sandwich" {prologue & reprise} both from 200 Motels.
I didn't time the album but it's probably at least 50 mins long. Bascally it's only one continuing song on each side and perhaps the entire album was supposed to only be one long song.
The album comes in a white generic cardboard jacket that didn't have anything printed on it originally however somebody wrote - " frank zappa "-" barking pumpkin 24239 " and " burnt weeny sandwich " on the front cover and that person wasn't me.

The record is pressed by the specialty records corporation in olyphant, pennslyvania. Both labels are the printed speciality records corporation labels and there is some information written in on both labels. On side a is the date 3-19-91 and the account is capitol which i'm pretty sure is capitol records. Mtx no. Is a 2: 0mm and the record number is 74239. On side b is only written b 2 ! Omm whatever that's supposed to mean. { see photos }. Also i've provided all of the matrix numbers and letters that are etched in the trail offs { dead wax areas } at the end of both sides. There are some mostly light surface marks, a few that are more visable on side a. I played both sides and there's a little light background noise in only a few of the softer music areas and i remember hearing a pop for a couple of times on side b. { hey this is a vinyl record folks }. However both sides play good and loud and the little surface noise that's only there in a few places doesn't interfere with the ability at all to hear and enjoy this great album. Hey, this album was only made 15 years ago which in the life of a vinyl record isn't a very long time.

THE PHAROS / THE RHYTHM SURFERS

(info from an ebay sale)

The Pharos (who later became The Rhythm Surfers) recorded an acetate at Paul Buff's Pal Studio in Cucamonga in 1963.

According to the drummer, Dan Byramer, both tracks were recorded by Frank Zappa and Paul Buff.

The A-side was originally done as the Pharos (THIS ACETATE) and  then released on the Daytone Label -out of Hacienda Heights, CA.- as The Rhythm Surfers-GREAT Reverb SURF with Screams, Hollers  and  a Wild Guitar & ORGAN!

The B-side was written by their manager and never released!

The acetate has the mailing address for Pal Studios on the label: 8072 Archibald Ave, Cucamong, California.

For more info on this group, refer to the Dionysus Records CD called  "Wailin' in West Covina" by The Hydraulic Raisins. This is the group they eventually became! This acetate was their first Demo.

DEL CASHER

Guitarist and guitar-innovator Del Casher performed with The Mothers Of Invention around 1967.

The picture on the right shows Matt Groening and Del Casher. Picture taken from the delcasher dot com website.

From - http://delcasher.com/Biography.html

If you have ever heard a screamin' Wah Wah pedal guitar solo, watched the NBC Nightly News or have been a part of the mainstream culture for many years, chances are you have already heard Del Casher. Del has been directly responsible for the development of many legendary guitar sounds heard over the world thousands of times.

Del has been on the cutting edge of music, guitars and entertainment for all audiences. His credits include all areas of the entertainment industry.

Del produced and played for Vic Mizzy, the alternate theme for Sony Pictures' "Spiderman 2." He appeared on screen with Elvis Presley in the movie "Roustabout" and Jerry Lewis in "The Patsy" both at Paramount. Warren Beatty selected Del to be featured in the film "Love Affair" at Warner Brothers with his ethnic balalika performance.

Del introduced the first wah wah to the world at Universal Pictures. Del was featured with his "Wah" on the opening title to Vic Mizzy's theme for "The Traveling Saleslady" starring Phyllis Diller. He was featured on the sound tracks for "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken," "The Shakiest Gun in the West," and "The Ambushers" at M-G-M. Del introduced his personal wah wah circuit design for the guitar while working with Vox . He produced a record demonstrating the new sound of a wah wah which until that time had never been heard.

He began his career during his high school years in Hammond, Indiana and starred in his radio show "The Many Guitars of Del Casher" at WJOB.

After college, Del came to Hollywood. He brought his invention ideas of the Ecco Fonic that earned him a position with the world famous RCA New York recording group "The Three Suns."He appeared at the Coconut Grove, Las Vegas, and an international tour to Japan which featured their hit RCA album "The Three Suns in Japan."

After his tour, Frank Zappa discovered that Del had unique pedals and echos and asked Del to arrange, produce, and play the theme for a Roger Corman movie "Queen of Blood." Immediately Frank Zappa asked Del to join his group, "The Mothers" for appearances at the Shrine Auditorium and the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Hollywood. Frank featured Del on his famous "Freak Out" performance that was aired on the David Susskind TV Show for ABC television.

On the opposite end of the spectrum he was the music producer and arranger for "The New Zoo Revue" children's.

He also composed music for "Chico and the Man" starring Freddie Prinze and Jack Albertson, both for NBC followed by music for NBC's Thorton Wilder's "Our Town."

Union Records of Japan contracted Del to arrange and produce his own albums as "Del Casher and his Sonics" for the Japanese market.

Japan Victor commissioned Del to produce several albums of the Billy Vaughn Orchestra and their hits.

In the beginning in 1966, Vox Musical Instruments asked Del to develop and promote new sounds for the guitar. His greatest achievement was the Vox wah wah pedal. He introduced it in February 1967 by producing a record with his guitar demonstrating the "wah wah" with his original music that best demostrated the use of the "wah wah."

Incorporating his unique guitar sounds NBC asked Del to produce a new "NBC News Center 4" theme which played every night for 18 years. It became one of the longest running television news themes from 1971- 1988.

Del has performed with Julie London, Bobby Troup, Bob Hope, Peggy Lee, Buddy Ebsen, Danny Thomas, Donald O'Connor, Motown Records,The Ray Conniff Orchestra, Sonny and Cher, Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" and played with "The Three Suns" in Hollywood, Las Vegas and Japan. He has appeared on Doug MacIntyre's KABC radio talk show and Art Fein's "TV Poker Party" interviews. Del also played on numerous "Little House on the Prairie" episodes and was the featured guitarist on Gene Autry's weekly TV show "Melody Ranch."

Del produced, arranged, and performed a Jimi Hendrix-style wah wah for Miramax's film "Reindeer Games."

Del was recently a featured artist at the "Viva Las Vegas Festival" in Las Vegas and will perform in London as a featured guest on several radio interviews and performances there.

He is also the anime producer for the Tenchi Muyo DVD series.

Del is the composer for his "Americana Suite" for orchestra which was recently world premiered in southern California.

Del performs throughout the world as a featured guest soloist.

Changes come to us, Brother
Ever since Father's underground
Mother still mourns
Even though it's been ten years
Oh no
Something's got to change

Sisters scared of tomorrows
One married, one wants to be found
In my mind
My family's by my side
Oh no
Something's got to change

Where are they now?

All at once I lost how close I was to him
Father, answer all the prayers
She lives alone in a strange reality
They can't help to stop the bleeding
I'm so afraid

And I feel that love has left and gone away
Now I want it back again
Oh, bring it back
Get your damage in and give 'em hell to pay
Can't we bring it back again?

Change over the water
Oh, lightning strikes the ground
Yeah, yeah
I hear your words
Whispered in the winds
I know
Something's got to change

I just don't know how

I'm a stranger in the home I grew up in
Since the day that you passed on
Mother, mother, I don't need to be your favorite son
All those questions never answered
Keeps us afraid

And I feel that love has left and gone away
Now I want it back again
Oh, bring it back
Get your damage in and give 'em hell to pay
Can't we bring it back again?

Oh, bring it back

Please
Please
Please
Bring it back

And I feel that love has left and gone away
Now I want it back again
Oh, bring it back
Get your damage in and give 'em hell to pay
Can't we bring it back again?

Oh, yeah, yeah
Bring it back again
Bring it back
Yeah, yeah
Bring it back
Where did our love go?
Oh, Where did our love go?

KIM FOWLEY

    from alt.fan.frank-zappa / Hoodini - 2007/01
Fowley occasionally mentions FZ while telling music business stories, or providing background information about particular songs and people, during his Saturday evening radio program on Sirius Satellite Radio's Underground Garage channel (aka, #25).

from alt.fan.frank-zappa / Oscar Bianco - 2007-01
In his site he credit himself in "the unreleased live Whiskey-a-GoGo album in 1967"!.

    from alt.fan.frank-zappa / Hoodini - 2007/01
During his weekly radio show he has stated at least once that he was a
member of the Mothers for a very short period of time.

    from alt.fan.frank-zappa / Charles Ulrich - 2007/01
In an interview in Ugly Things #19 (with the Sgt. Money parody cover), Fowley said that every participant in the 3/12/66 recording session showed up for a live recording at the Whisky a year later.
Presumably this was actually on 7/23/68. And presumably this gig was the source of God Bless America on Uncle Meat.

Oh, and another one of his records was "The Trip", which was released under his own name. It's on the four-disc Nuggets.

    from alt.fan.frank-zappa / Pat Buzby - 2007/01
Fowley had an interesting cameo on the Leo Kottke album Mudlark, which had a few other Mothers connections.  (It was the first of a string of Kottke albums with Denny Bruce producing, and Roy Estrada played bass on one cut.)

Firefall Guitarist Debut CD Features All-Star Line-up

Debut solo CD by Jock Bartley, guitarist with Firefall, features guest appearances by rock music legends.

http://prweb.com/releases/2007/1/prweb490754.htm

Colorado (PRWEB) January 3, 2007 -- Rock 'n' Roll is alive and well as rock music legends convene in the Colorado Mountains to record on a hot new CD. Jock Bartley, lead guitarist, songwriter and leader of '70s U.S. rock sensations Firefall, has just completed his debut solo CD entitled Blindside. Bartley is best known for his inspired work on such classic Firefall hits as "You Are The Woman," "Just Remember I Love You," "Strange Way," "Cinderella" and "Mexico." Recorded between January and August 2006, Blindside features guest appearances by such rock luminaries as:

  • Richie Furay, former Poco member and Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee with the Buffalo Springfield

  • Rusty Young from Poco

  • John McEuen and Jimmie Fadden of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

  • Mark Andes from Spirit, Heart and Firefall

  • John Magne from The Subdudes

  • Brian Nevin from Big Head Todd And The Monsters

  • Michael Travis of The String Cheese Incident

  • Bob Harris from Warren Zevon, Frank Zappa and Axe, along with many other notable musicians and singers.

Songs from Blindside effortlessly span the musical spectrum -- from rock to pop to blues, the album showcases Bartley's extraordinary songwriting talents. The tender, heartfelt ballad "Veronica So Fair" not only displays Jock's vocal prowess, but could quite possibly be one of the finest love songs ever written. The well-crafted pop-rock title cut 'Blindside' is the first single. All songs on Blindside were written by the Firefall guitarist, who also produced the album.

Another highlight of this exciting new CD is the positive message song "Call On Me," which was originally written in 1998 for Suicide Prevention. The song became an anthem of sorts for the cause and the national crises hotline, 1(800) SUICIDE. A portion of the proceeds from the sales and performance of "Call On Me" will be donated back to Suicide Prevention, helping to reverse the terrible national statistics.

Blindside is now available on the new independent record label Winged Horse Records. It is also available on www.jockbartley.net and My Space for individual songs or entire CD download. Blindside can also soon be purchased online from CDBaby.com, iTunes and E-Bay. In support of Bartley's new album, plans for a major tour of the US and Europe are in the formative stages.

In Addition to his new CD and continuing work with Firefall, Jock is an artist of growing renown. Four of his Beatles paintings are featured in a new coffee table book released worldwide, entitled Beatles Art - Fantastic New Artworks of The Fab Four, in which Jock has also written the foreword. Borders Books is sponsoring a number of Colorado and national book signing 'events' in which they will also display, promote and sell his solo CD Blindside.

Life is terribly short
We're all gonna die soon
When women betray me, disrespect me
When others abuse me
When my father lies to me
I don't bother to fight or argue with them
I stop talking to them
And refuse to acknowledge them
So they cannot squander
Any more of my short time on earth.

VACATION VIBRATIONS GOES ZAPPANALE

FZ Europe vacation tour and music festival July 27 - August 6!

Each summer for the past 18 years, Zappaphiles from all over have migrated to the northern German town of Bad Doberan for the Zappanale, a festival devoted to the music and conceptual continuity of FZ. Now your summer vacation can be an absolutely Zappa experience.

Our good friends at Arf Society, the German non-profit group that organizes the Zappanale, passed this along to us, and we thought we would share it.

Vacation Vibrations, a Boston-based tour operator, is pleased to announce

Farther Oblivion Tour 2007

a tour package that will bring FZ fans to that great worldwide annual gathering in Germany of Appliantologists and Dental Floss Tycoons.

The tour begins in Berlin on July 27, 2007. The group will tour the city, and attend an extraordinary event, when "Street Number 13" will be formally dedicated as "Frank-Zappa-Strasse", the first street in the world named for FZ. The dedication will be followed by music for the rest of the day, and a late "chill-party" that is sure to exemplify Berlin's legendary nightlife.

From Berlin the tour will proceed to Prague. Prague is not only one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, but FZ holds a special place in Czech history. Former Czech president Vaclav Havel called Zappa "one of the gods of the Czech underground" for his uncompromising belief in freedom of thought and expression, and that spirit lives on.

After enjoying Prague, the tour will head to the northern German town of Bad Doberan for the 18th annual Zappanale, a three-day festival of Zappa tribute bands, former Zappa band members, and other musicians and performance artists with kindred styles and interests from all over the world. The Zappanale is designed as a complete Zappa experience, with the atmosphere on the festival grounds every bit as important as what happens on stage. The whole town gets into the fun, from the café waitstaff in the town square to the mayor himself.

Headlining Zappanale 18 will be the Terry Bozzio Out Trio. (Terry Bozzio - need we say more?) Other US groups will be the prodigies from Philadelphia's Paul Green School Of Rock, the renowned Project/Object, and the Don Preston Akashic Ensemble (Don Preston - one of the Mothers of all Mothers!) So far, the line-up will also include French big band Le Bocal, Italy's Orchestra Spaziale, Team Zappa from Norway, Zappatronix from Switzerland, and three Danish bands- Octafish, Space Debris, and Trigon.

The tour group will be deposited back at the Berlin airport on August 6th, totally plooked out of their brains from music, "cities and beer", and lots of fun. Did you say you want some more-a? Tour participants who want to continue their vacation after the Zappanale can book an optional tour extension to Amsterdam, another awesome city with legendary nightlife that is also devoted to independent thinking and freedom of expression.

Vacation Vibrations is a division of American International Tour Groups, a group tour operator with 15 years of experience specializing in customized group trips. Whether you are an experienced traveler, or this will be your first international trip, they'll make sure you have an absolutely amazing time.

For more information, you can visit their web site: www.freewebs.com/fartheroblivion . If you have any questions, you can contact them at VacationVibrations@Gmail.com , or call 617-721-7996.

See you in Bad Doberan!

Roland Kluttig - Dirigent

UK ZAPPA FESTIVAL

UK Zappa Festival Announced!

The Zappateers are pleased to announce their 1st UK Zappa Festival to be held in Bradford-on-Avon on the weekend of 16th - 18th February 2007.

The Festival is to be held at ‘The George’ Public House – a major local venue for live music.

The weekend festival will feature at least 6 bands – already confirmed are the young and excitable ‘Monty and The Butchers’, Dutch coverband ‘The Foolz’, and Liverpudlian Zappa stalwarts ‘The Muffin Men’. Supplementing this line up will be a number of local bands.

Festival Organiser Paul Barnard said “We have an excellent venue booked, with a committed Landlord, and have negotiated very attractive accommodation rates with local hostelries. We hope to announce weekend ticket prices very soon to include the option of hotels as part of the overall price. We hope that by including bed and breakfast as a part of the package we will attract Zappateers from all over the world, and encourage them all to experience some excellent music combined with some real West Country hospitality”.

Co-organiser Benjamin Darling added “The Festival will be supporting the Marie Curie Cancer Charity, which is a regular beneficiary of The George Pub. As Zappa died prematurely of prostate cancer, we hope to be able to have a great festival and contribute to this worthy cause”.

The Zappateers will be announcing ticket prices and booking details on their website early in December 2006. But fans need to be quick – with a venue limit of 75 the Zappateers expect the event to be a sell out.
