stumuk

AKA: Bill "Stumuk" Nugent
AKA: Bill "Stomak" Nugent

Stumuk played bass sax on "Joe's Garage"; he appears in the movie "Uncle Meat", and the soundtrack excerpts from the CD version of the album of the same name.  In the movie he played the role of the "Elderly Biff Debris".

Stumuk's identity and background are a mystery, but I did find a clue.
An announcement from Explosive Records boasts the following:

   Lester Chambers Releases New CD!  Explosive Records is proud to announce the release of Lester Chambers exciting new CD. Featuring Joseph, George and Willie Chambers (vocals), John Heard (bass), Johnny Turner (guitar), Bill "Stumuk" Nugent (horns), Joel Scott (keys), Wilby Fletcher (drums) and Sergio Pastora (percussion).

This site on Lester Chambers (http://www.explosive.com/artists/lester/bio.htm) indicates that Bill "Stumuk" Nugent had played with Zappa, so I'd say that clinches it.

random notes

     From: Stu Mark (stumark@earthlink.net)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (I gotta lay off the loco weed) I remember enjoying a band called Tupulo Chain Sex. They were a punk-sorta band back in the mid 80's. I especially enjoyed a peppy little number that they did about money ("When they took the gold out of the dollar, they took the 'L' out of 'GOLD'.")... don't remember it's title, or the title of the album. However, I do remember that their sax player was none other than Stumuk (of Joe's Garage)...

Sugarcane Harris was also in the band, don'cha know.  This is according to the liner notes of The Lost Episodes.

     Subject: Stumuk & Moloko?

Do any of you know if the old bald-headed guy with a white beard playing sax in a video of a new band with a blonde girl singing in the front and a cheesy funky 70's look called Moloko is actually Stumuk?

I know Stumuk;
I worked on the Lester Chambers thing.
It's the same guy...he's a really, really cool guy. Still has the big white beard.

2005/12/--, a message from Stumuk's brother

I stumbled across your United Mutations web site and found your information on my brother 'Stumuk', aka Bill Nugent. Your information was for the most part correct. Bill is alive and well and living alternately in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the San Bernadino Mountains of Southern California. He would love to hear from his fans and is always looking for new gigs with new bands. He can be reached at ftr555.comcast.net
