specialises in (limited) residents related releases. and as far as
i can see, it works out really fine. ralphamerica is happy because
their releases sell well (a couple of the earlier titles already sold
out) and the fans are happy because they get new material on a regular
basis. the only disadvantages are that the titles are only
available through the ralphamerica web-site (expensive for foreign
customers) and that sold out titles become quite 'collectable' (high
prices). but still, an excellent project.
number twelve in the ralphamerica series is called "eat exuding
oinks", better known as "the residents radio
special". it's the famous 5th anniversary radio special from
1977, previously only available on tape.
so does it add anything new to your residents collection? well,
no, not if you have the tape (and don't like cds). but if you
don't have it, this little disc is what you've been waiting for.
the residents play the beatles, the residents play the stones, and the
residents play zappa.
and, yes, of course they play themselves as well.
before the zappa
alumni formed a band called the band from utopia, later renamed
the banned from utopia, around june/july 1994, there was an
australian zappa tribute band that called themselves band from
utopia as well. the australian bfu started out in january
1994, but changed their name after they heard of the american band.
two of chris quinlan's
zappa tribute band adventure, early 1995, was called kemerson, kaked
and karl karma (because the line-up was similar to
e.l.&p.). phase three: only a couple of months later the zappa
quite a package. all from chris quinlan's archives.
and it's very nice package as well.
playing the albums in a chronological order, i was quite surprised by
the evolution the band has made over the years. nice addition to
the others of invention.
