    • This DVD got released by L'Institut National de l'Audiovisue (INA), to celebrate the 40th birthday of the "Summer of Love". It totals 196 minutes and includes a documentary by Pola Rapapaport, a movie by Philippe Garrell, and another 90 minutes of archives, including the 10-minute performance of Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention at "Forum Musique", originally broadcast on French national television on 1968/10/23.
      The Mothers' performance includes
      • 'A Pound For A Brown (On The Bus)'
      • 'Sleeping In A Jar'
      • 'Octandre'    (E.Varèse)

The backside of the album explains it all:

"This 40 minute film is a small portion of the 14 hours of film footage I shot during the two years that I collaborated with Frank Zappa in the late 60's on a film we called "Uncle Meat".
I had hired Frank to score a 30 second TV commercial I was animating for "Luden's Cough Drops".
We then filmed for 6 months at the Garrick Theater in Greenwich Village where he had a steady gig.
This evolved into a relationship that took me on tour with the Mothers to London and Amsterdam.
Since Frank didn't see an immediate end to the filming, I sold him the footage and created this 40 minute psychedelic impressionistic version of my years with the original Mothers of Invention.

All the filming was shot without sound which I later scored with Zappa's Music."

 

Ed Seeman says:

"After 40 years of sitting with this film and wanting to share it with the world, and after consulting Jeff Rougvie at Rykodisc and sending him a copy and asking him to release it, I have gotten no where. I have sent copies to Ahmet Zappa, Matt Groenig, begged Gail by emailing to her site, spoken to Toby Byron at Pumpkin all to no avail.

This film was made by Frank and me and I have contractual rights for film festival use from Frank Himself."
